Walk-A-Thon

Our Walk-A-Thon is TOMORROW!!!  I cannot wait!  Thank you to all of the families who have brought in their pledges, as of Wednesday, March 28th just the fifth grade class raised $2036!!!  We are really looking forward to outdoor school and I know a little time outside walking, is just the thing to get the kids excited!

Thank you so much to all the people who have volunteered time and donations to this event.  We couldn't have done it without you.  A special thanks to Josie Jung who has been amazing during the planning of this event!


Be sure to look for banana slugs around the lake tomorrow!

Open Mic: Poetry

Students are going to begin a short unit on poetry.  They will be creating poems that they can share at our open mic on Thursday before Spring Break.  The open mic will be held after the awards ceremony on Thursday and all are welcome!

I look forward to hearing all the wonderful poets perform!

Math: Workbook pages 185-186
Reading: Read for 20min. from your book club book or book challenge book
Vocabulary: Create a 3-column chart with self-selected vocabulary words.  Remember that you need to have 10 words from Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry and that you need to write the page number you found the word on.  They can be from any chapter in the book.
Spanish: Make a family tree and be creative!

Walk-A-Thon and Outdoor Education

Thank you to all those families who have already brought in pledge sheets for this years Walk-A-Thon!  The money that you raise will go towards your individual bill for the trip, so keep those pledges coming!!!

This Tuesday, March 20th at 6:30pm there is a meeting here for the parents about Outdoor Education.  The students will have a meeting during the day with the same director who can answer their questions and she will be here to answer your questions later that night!

This Friday it is the 5th and 6th grade responsibility to take the lead on Sandwiches for the needy, so let's bring them in!!!

Bonus Math Questions!

1.  Kurt bought two items that cost a total of $100.  One item cost $10 more than the other.  What was the cost of each item?  Explain your reasoning.


2.  Ben's mom wants to buy new carpet for the family room that measures 12 feet by 11 feet.  She can purchase the carpet for $6 per square foot including installation.  How much will Ben's mom spend to put new carpet in the family room?


3.  Helen wants to cover her garden for the winter.  To get the right material, she must find the area of the space.  Helen's garden is 12ft long and 18ft wide.  What is it's area?


4.  A rectangle is twice as long as it is wide.  Its perimeter is 42cm.  Find the length and width of the rectangle.


5.  Henry drew a square where the area and perimeter have the same number of units.  What are the dimensions of the square?

Project Night Night

The 7th graders here are preparing for their upcoming Confirmation into the Church with a service project during the Lenten Season.  They are helping an organization called Project Night Night.  It would be a great idea for all families to participate in their service by donating some of the following items:

-new blankets for kids
-stuffed animals, gently used or new (at least 18in.)
-toiletry items, such as toothpaste and toothbrushes
-books

Walk-A-Thon

Yesterday in the Wednesday envelope the students brought home information about the 5th and 6th grade Walk-A-Thon happening on March 30th!  Our goal is for each family to raise $50 for this event.

I know that some of you have already been contacted about volunteering time and snacks for the event.  Stay posted for more information about the event.

We are also looking for adults that want to jog/walk with the students!!!  If you are willing to put your sneakers on and get out there please let me know asap so that I can make sure we have enough pace groups for the students!

Pledge sheets and collected donations are due on March 27th, so start getting those pledges!!!
