End of the Year Celebration!

This year has been so much fun and I cannot believe it is coming to a close already!

We of course want to celebrate all of the hard work that the students have put into being successful fifth graders and preparing for sixth grade, so we are going to hold a celebration in our classroom on Wednesday June 6th.

We will begin this celebration after morning recess and it will last into our class lunch time.  We would love to have some tasty treats and things to drink for this celebration.  Please just e-mail me to let me know if you would be willing to bring one of the following items:

-drinks
-snack/lunch food
-dessert food
-anything else you think of!

Thank you so much for all of your support throughout the school year.  You have been an amazing group of families to work with, and I am going to miss you all dearly.

Take Home Test Questions (for those who didn't finish)

1.  In what ways is Mr. Morrison a role model for the Logan children?
2.  Why does the boycott of the Wallace store fail?
3.  Why do you think T.J. becomes friends with the Simms brothers?
4.  Think of an adjective that describes Mr. Granger's personality and give a reason for the word you choose.
5.  Do you think that Lillian Jean learns anything from what Cassie does to her?  If so, what does she learn?  If not, why not?
6.  Why doesn't Mama change the history lesson when Mr. Granger comes to class?
7.  How would you describe the relationship between T.J. and Stacey at the beginning of the book?

Just in case you forgot about the three main dish options, here they are:

1.  Research the Depression-era educational system for blacks in the state of Mississippi and write a 5-paragraph essay about it.

2.  Create the front page of a newspaper: Write a news article using the attack on the Berry's of Smellings Creek as the main article (at least 4 paragraphs) and include at least 2 other smaller articles (at least 1 paragraph each).

3.  Write a persuasive, 5-paragraph essay about one of the themes from the novel, for example, family, racism, forgiving, choices, courage, freedom, self-respect, etc.

We have had many opportunities to work on this at school, but we will only have a few more days of school to work on this before it's due so make sure you're working on it at home too!
